加拿大荷兰学院院长致贵阳职业技术学院学生的一封信

Ni Hao. My name is Sandy MacDonald. I am the President of Holland College. I hope your National Holiday and Mid-Autumn Festival was restful and enjoyable.

大家好！我是荷兰学院院长Sandy MacDonald。我希望你们度过了一个愉快的国庆和中秋假期。

On behalf of Holland College, I welcome the first-year students to the Holland College Educational Joint Venture Program. For the second and third-year students, welcome back!

我代表荷兰学院欢迎今年报读中加合作办学专业的大一同学，并欢迎大二和大三同学回校。

In March of this year the College was faced with a challenge like none other in its 50-year history. The COVID virus forced us to shut down for many months and our students were forced to learn online and faculty and staff were forced to put their content online. It was an extremely challenging time for everyone. However, with a lot of hard work, our students were able to graduate in June and our faculty were successful in getting most of our students to graduate. We were very pleased and thankful with the outcome of all this work and effort.

今年3月荷兰学院第一次面对了建校五十年以来最严竣的挑战，全球新冠肺炎爆发迫使我们停工停课多月，我们的学生被迫在线学习，所有教职工也要把教学转移至网上，对每个人来说都是一个极具挑战性的时刻。无论如何，在各方面的努力下，我们的老师成功地让大多数的学生完成了学习并在六月顺利毕业。我们对所有的工作，所付出的努力和结果感到非常高兴和感谢。

Now as the new year starts, we are faced with a different set of challenges. About half of our students are working online completely, the other half are taking part in a blended fashion. This means that part of their program is face to face at the College, in the classrooms and the other part is online. We believe this is the best possible approach for our students and our staff and faculty given the impact of the virus. On October of this year we will determine what we will do in January. We may continue on with the same set of programs in the same processes in January or we may change things a little bit. Sufficed to say we will do what is in the best interest of our students and following the health guidelines outlined by our Chief Public Health Officer here on PEI.

现在，随着新的学期开始，我们要面对另一番挑战，我们有百分之五十的学生要在线学习整个课程，另外百分之五十的学生是采用混合模式上课：即课堂面授+在线学习。我相信在疫情影响下这是对学生和教职工最适合的做法。这个月我们就要决定明年一月是否继续以这样的模式上课或者是有所调整。我们将从学生最大利益出发并按照我们省卫生部发出的指引行事。

We know that the advantage and attraction of our EJV programs are that in addition to students learning the North American curriculum, our instructors will go to your institution to teach you in person. Unfortunately, since the outbreak of the pandemic, none of us has been able to travel abroad. We must follow the travel advice from Health Canada. At present, most of our borders are still closed, and the Chinese Embassy in Canada only issues Chinese visas to essential persons. All the foreigners who travel to China are also required to quarantine for 14 days after entering China. To my understanding, majority of the Canadian colleges and universities who have partnership programs in China still have not had any of their staff and faculty work in China. In my opinion, we will only travel to China unless the international travels resume to normal, and foreigners do not need to quarantine upon arrival in China. Before the successful development of the vaccine, we can only hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I can tell you that myself, our Senior Management team and faculty are looking forward to travelling to China as soon as we possibly can.

我们清楚合作办学最大的优点和吸引力就是除了学生学到北美的课程外，还能亲身接受外教前往贵院给你们上课。不幸的是这此疫症大流行爆发以来，至今我们谁都不能出国旅游，我們必须遵循加拿大卫生部的旅行指引。目前，我们大多数边境仍然关闭，中国驻加拿大大使馆仅向紧急必要人士签发中国签证，而且进入中国后也需要隔离14天。据我了解，在中国设有国际合作项目的大部份加拿大高校至今仍沒有任何教职工前往中国工作。我个人认为，除非国际旅行恢复正常，而且外国人抵达中国后无需检疫，否则我们很难在这种限制下前往中国工作。在疫苗成功研发出来前，我们只能希望一切顺利，但也要为最坏的事情做好准备。我想告诉大家，我个人以至我们的管理人员和老师都期待能尽快前往中国工作。

Finally, I sincerely wish everyone a good school year, study hard, and be brave and positive facing the adversities. I hope to go to China again to meet with you and participate in your graduation ceremony soon.

最后，我衷心祝愿大家有新学年一切顺利，努力学习，勇敢和积极面对困难。我希望在不久的将来能再次前往中国与你们会面，参加你们的毕业典礼。
